Whiz Kids

There's a band I like a lot. We had the pleasure of seeing them play in Culver City at a gallery whose name escapes me now. One of the dudes in the band was dressed exactly like Saville and another dude in the audience apparently got the memo because he was dressed the same, too. Here's what they were wearing:

which happens to be the official uniform of boys in Echo Park.

Anyway, the band is called So Many Wizards and if I could I would put some of their songs on here. But I don't know how. Here's a look at an EP of their's instead.

If I were you, I'd buy it and love it. It sounds like the kind of music you'd like to represent your life-- quirky, happy, kinda beachy pop music, but not in an embarrassing way. They call it bedroom pop and I'll take it.

Reason 394 I should stop drinking

I got a text from someone today. A number I don't know. They said I gave them my card and told me to watch their video.

Where and when did I give this kid my card?

Oh well. At least he's on some positive stuff.

A quick follow up

Ok, so this is not completely unselfish, but Oxfam, a highly reputable charity, recently released a Joanna Newsom cover album. Here's the tracklist:

Francesco Santocono: "'81"
A Voice Heard on Baer Mountain: "Autumn"
Sarah Katheryn: "Baby Birch"
Joel Cathey: "Book of Right-On"
Guy Buttery: "Book of Right-On" (instrumental)
Josh Mann: "Bridges & Balloons"
Chris Leeds: "Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie"
Ian Cooke: "Colleen"
This Is Deer Country: "Easy"
Doublewuzzy: "Flying a Kite"
Rosa Hinksman: "In California"
White Elephant Gift Exchange: "Inflammatory Writ"
Ian Cooke: "Monkey & Bear"
Billy Bragg: "On a Good Day"
Kristina Forrer: "On a Good Day"
Owen Pallett: "Peach, Plum, Pear"
M. Ward: "Sadie"
Ben Sollee: "Sawdust & Diamonds"
David Miele: "Soft as Chalk"
The Moscow Coup Attempt: "Sprout and the Bean"
Melissa Stylianou: "Swansea"
Jennifer Schmitt: "This Side of the Blue"

If you go to the site and donate, you can download the album. I thought this was a nice way to give back and get something in return. A nice bit of philanthropy for beginners.

hey ho let go

I listened to this song 204 times in the month of January. No joke. The video is weird. I think it's funny when Swedes do their take on gangster shit. Smoking blunts, bandanas, name brands, etc.

When something good comes your way...

...and it's so unexpected but it just fits and you wonder where it came from, well, maybe it came from here:

How could you resist it?

I heard...

Brit Brit was at my work today. I didn't see her, but remember when she did this?

And this?

That's when I realized there was a little Whitney in Britney. I know I'm supposed to obsess over someone more indie, like her

or her

and, don't get me wrong, they're lovely, but can a girl have a guilty pleasure?

Saville couldn't sleep last night. He came into my room and we watched this video together. When it was over, he paused and then said "Whoa. That's pretty awesome."

Take that.

And beyond...

I wanna live here.

Hooker with an eye for gold...

Ms. Bobby Gentry. Is or is not her dancing the most awkwardamazingness you ever saw?

And incase you grew up in a rural area in the 80's, too, Ms. Reba McEntire's own take on the most fantastic ode to the justification of prostitution the world has ever known.

It's like what would happen if you mixed an MJ mini-movie and Glamourshots. Which is to say I love it.

Something else...

Isn't this cute? I always liked the idea of inanimate objects having lives when the humans aren't looking. Also, my friend Emily directed and my friend SJ's pretty legs make a cameo. Did I mention I know people?

Nameless Shame Drop

Because I like the boys and like this song, too.

The best ever.

I love this song, this video, this make-believe world.

(La Bionda-- I wanna be your lover)

A great week to not be here.

The title is sarcasm. I'm excited as the next Gibson to attend my grandpa's 80th/fam re-u in Yuma, but shiiiiiit. Seems like fun stuff is happening here. Here's what I would be doing if I weren't a glamour-loving glamourbot:

Origami Vinyl to Open in Echo Park, CA
Opening April 3, 2009
(Boys, beards, records, people, stuff, things.)

Kid Sister at the Echo?
(That's tonight. I could go, but I don't wanna pay. Also, I don't really know if I'm into her that much though I bet it will turn into a great dance party...)

Um, everything on this list, with the possible exception of the things at either of the Standards. Something about shitting and sleeping?

Seriously, go do all these things and think of me.

I made this.

WELCOME from Michael Nason on Vimeo.

Psych. I just dreamed it once, I think. Mike Nason made it. I don't know him, but I bet I could love him. Looks like Tim and Erik.

A cause we can all stand up for...

No disrespeck to Kanye, but isn't it about time we banded together to stop the madness?

P.S. I haven't heard the album, but apparently they took a bunch of hip hop classics and ruined them with a vocoder. To prove a point. As I am a big fan of malicious acts planted in the soil of principality, I am intrigued. Maybe I'll slide over to Amoeba today and check 'er out.
